Windows Update – Searching for updates on this computer

We’ve discovered an issue on Windows 7, SP1 that causes Windows Update to search endlessly. It does appear that Microsoft has released a patch, but it does not fix machine which have not updated. The issue is you’ll install a fresh image, or get one from Dell, and it will search for Windows Updates for many hours, if not up to 8-10 hours. This is not convenient for setting up new machines. The update KB3172605 requires KB3020369 to be installed prior to deployment. Make sure you have it, and go to the links below for x32/x64bit download, and run the standalone installer.

Symptoms: Fresh installs that have never checked for updated on Windows 7 x86 or x64 using SP1 or earlier will not find updates without a long period of searching that can be over 8-10 hours and sometimes longer.
